Traditional Ballad Assignment: Part 1
Read again the traditional folk ballads “Barbara Allen” and “Get Up and Bar the Door.” Notice the accompanying photographs that illustrate these ballads. Your assignment is to choose a photograph that appears on this blog and use that image as inspiration for your own ballad that follows the traditional folk ballad format. Your completed ballad will then be posted to the blog to accompany the photograph.
Use this checklist to construct your own ballad:
-Your ballad will tell a story or a portion of a story with defined characters, plot, setting, and a climactic event.
-Your ballad must be a minimum of 28 lines, set in four lines stanzas with a repetitive rhyme scheme.
-Your ballad must tell a story in third person narrative.
-Some dialogue will appear to develop and cement the story line.
